What has Harmony been up to?
Over the years, Harmony has been given many amazing opportunities to share our mission with others. We hope to continue to reach out to those in the Penn State Community and surrounding communities to share the gift of inclusivity.
These events give our students the ability to express their talents, try new things, and showcase who they are. Here are some of our highlights from the past few years:
The Harmony Showcase
Every semester, Harmony and HarMINIs put on a showcase in Schwab Auditorium. We spend the whole semester practicing songs, dances, and scenes during weekly rehearsals to prepare for the big day. Our most recent show was in April 2024 with Walt Vault: Unlocking the Magic.
Gold Star Inclusion Award Winners
Harmony was chosen as the recipient for the Gold Star Inclusion Award from the Arc of Centre County in December 2023. We were commended for our "continued efforts to create a more unified community" and got to spend a great evening with a dinner and a dance!
Volunteering at Pixie Dust Wishes
Harmony volunteers love to help out at the Pixie Dust Wishes Halloween in Neverland event each fall. We help the Pixie Dust Wishes non-profit create joy in the lives of those who have disabilities and face medical challenges. And of course we love to dress up for the Halloween festivities!
The Harmony Banquet
In the spring of 2024, Harmony hosted its first ever end-of-year banquet. Performers and volunteers gathered at the Graduate Hotel for a dinner buffet, awards ceremony, and photo booth. It was a fantastic way to wrap up a great year!
Penn State Men's Basketball
Our students were asked to help the basketball team run out onto the court before the start of several games. We were also given the chance to perform in front of the entire stadium during half time.
THON
100 DAYS
Performance
A group of Harmony students and volunteers perform a mini-showcase of songs from different Harmony shows at Penn State THON's 100 Days 'Til THON Celebration!
Night to Shine:
Tim Tebow Foundation
Every year our students are given the opportunity to become Prom Queen and Prom King for the night. They celebrate with limousine rides, food, karaoke, and lots of awesome dancing. This night is made especially for them, celebrating their uniqueness.
Performing Arts Council Grant Winners
Harmony was chosen as the recipient for the Performing Arts Council 2019 Arts Impact Grant. We are very thankful to the Performing Arts Council for chosing Harmony. This grant has allowed us to continue to make rehearsals free to all participants.
Penn State Homecoming
Parade
Harmony loved being able to celebrate our organization and Penn State by walking in the Homecoming parade. Penn State's Homecoming parade is the largest student-run parade in the nation! It was so much fun to spread our mission.
Giving Tuesday Performance
Harmony students and volunteers performed songs from different showcases at Penn State's Giving Tuesday Celebration.
